Here are some captivating behind-the-scenes
facts from the production of our short movie:

Rocket's Last-Minute Arrival

A rocket made a dramatic entrance, arriving at our location just three days before we were set to shoot four crucial scenes. Likely our locations were just with broken windows. With lightning speed, we had to fix windows and get ready to roll the cameras.

Dancing Around the Curfew

In Kyiv, there’s a curfew in place from midnight until 5 am. Filming couldn’t begin at 6 am as normal, and we had to rely on a little bit of luck to get started at 7 am, allowing time for loading in equipment and setting up.

Building Connections from Scratch

Before the project, our director Dimitri had absolutely no connections in Kyiv. In a remarkable feat, he built a network of valuable contacts in just four months during preproduction (May to June). And filmed within 3 days.

Filming Amid Air Alarms

We had to contend with air alarms during our filming. It added an extra layer of tension, knowing that at any moment, the fact of a Russian bomber jet taking off could interrupt our shoot. Plus it is additional noice on the set.

Festival Triple Debut

For Dimitri Nasennik (director), Mykhailo Sukhomlyn (cinematographer), and Vsevolod Priakhin (producer), this movie marked their debut on the festival circuit. 


Cathedral Reshoot or 27% Over Budget

Shooting in a cathedral came with its share of surprises. Miscommunications led to three significant mistakes, involving the stage design, investigation, and the church representative’s approval. The church subsequently demanded a reshoot of the scene, which pushed our budget up by a daunting 27%.

Estonian in Ukraine

Dimitri was the sole foreigner in Ukrainian crew.

In our quest for authenticity, Natalia (main character for violin lessons, ensuring that the music in our film was pitch-perfect.
